The Solid-State Revolution: Japanese Automakers Race to Master Solid-State Battery Technology
Some of Japan’s largest automakers are pushing for mass production of solid-state electric vehicle batteries from 2025 onwards. — Solid-state batteries are expected to increase the range of electric vehicles and reduce charging time. Solid-state batteries will use a solid electrolyte instead of a liquid one to store and release energy. This type of battery is expected to increase the range of electric vehicles and reduce charging time, making electric vehicles more popular. Honda Motor has invested nearly $280 million in building a pilot plant for solid-state battery production north of Tokyo, Japan. The goal is to confirm mass production processes. Honda Motor plans to inaugurate the plant in January next year. Honda hopes that this new type of battery will reduce costs and double the range of electric vehicles. The company plans to start mass production from 2025. Toyota Motor is also building a solid-state battery pilot production line. The company aims to install this type o...
