The Jaguar XJS V12: A Powerful Companion to the “Qua” Vu’s Fleet.

The red Jaguar XJS sports car, with the license plate number 51L, joins the previously known XJS owned by “Qua” Vu, making it the second publicly known XJS in Vietnam. With only a limited number of these vehicles produced globally from 1975 to 1996, the XJS is a true classic. The distinct rear pillars and the long hood, adorned with the iconic Jaguar logo, give the XJS a unique and timeless appeal.

The Jaguar XJS has a rich history, initially designed by Jaguar’s aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer, who sadly passed away before the design was finalized in 1970. Despite its two-door sports car appearance, the XJS has a sizable presence, comparable to modern-day D-segment sedans. The long hood and the Jaguar logo have become signature elements carried over to the latest Jaguar models.

The XJS underwent several design iterations, with the final version produced from 1991 to 1996, after Jaguar was acquired by Ford. This latest model featured modifications, including the removal of the hyphen from its name, simply marketed as the XJS. By eliminating the frames, the rear side windows appeared more expansive, and the windshield was installed flush. The distinctive pillars remained, a design element that Geoff Lawson, the designer, considered integral to the car’s character.

Under the hood, the Jaguar XJS packs a punch with its V12 engine, offering a choice between a manual or automatic transmission. In its final iteration, the V12 engine was upgraded with a new fuel injection system, spark plugs, and a more streamlined combustion chamber. The European market version with a catalytic converter boasted an impressive 276 horsepower.

The Jaguar XJS, with its unique style and powerful performance, has left an indelible mark in automotive history. Its production ended in 1996, after a remarkable 21-year run, making way for its successor, the XK8.
